Highways & Outdoor Lighting

At Midlands Lighting Solutions, we provide innovative and reliable lighting solutions for highways and road networks. Effective highway lighting is essential for ensuring driver safety, reducing accidents, and improving visibility in all weather conditions. We understand the critical importance of proper illumination on busy roads and motorways, and our expert team is dedicated to delivering high-performance lighting systems that meet the highest safety standards.

Our highway lighting solutions are designed to enhance visibility and reduce glare, making driving safer and more comfortable for road users. Whether it’s for motorways, dual carriageways, or local road networks, our lighting systems are optimised to improve clarity at night and during adverse weather conditions. This not only helps drivers detect hazards and navigate the road more effectively but also supports the flow of traffic and reduces the likelihood of accidents.

At Midlands Lighting Solutions, we utilise energy-efficient LED technology in our highway lighting designs. This not only provides excellent light quality but also significantly reduces energy consumption and maintenance costs for local authorities and private contractors. Our LED lighting systems are long-lasting, environmentally friendly, and capable of withstanding the challenges of outdoor exposure, including temperature fluctuations, rain, and wind.

We offer fully customised lighting solutions that are tailored to meet the unique demands of each highway project. Our team works closely with clients to assess road layouts, traffic patterns, and specific safety concerns to create a bespoke lighting plan. From initial design and planning to installation and ongoing maintenance, we provide end-to-end support to ensure that every project is completed to the highest standard.

In addition to lighting for general traffic routes, we also specialise in smart lighting solutions that incorporate advanced controls, such as dimming during off-peak hours and real-time monitoring systems. This allows for greater energy savings, reduced light pollution, and improved efficiency in highway lighting management.

Path Lighting System for Lord Wandsworth College

This project aimed to install a path lighting system to ensure pupil safety while walking between buildings during dark mornings and evenings on a 650-meter path. The key challenges included low mounting height restrictions (4 meters), resistance from local authorities concerned about light pollution, and the presence of overhanging trees and varied topography along the path. The local planning conditions required minimising environmental impact, particularly preserving dark skies and protecting local wildlife.

The solution involved using warm white (3000K) lighting, which is less disruptive to the environment, and advanced motion detection with a "grouping" system. This technology allowed lights to activate only when users were present, following their movement along the path and switching off afterward, significantly reducing light pollution and energy consumption. Strategic positioning of low-mounted LED fixtures ensured sufficient lighting coverage despite the challenges of low mounting heights, tree obstructions, and varied terrain.

The result was a safe, energy-efficient lighting system that minimized environmental impact, satisfying both local planning regulations and sustainability goals. The project successfully balanced pedestrian safety with dark sky preservation and wildlife protection, earning positive feedback from the community and local authorities.
